There is a feature in Firefox that prefetch's web pages when doing a search via Google, MSN or Yahoo. This means that if you do a search for any keyword, Firefox will look to see if there is a www."keyword".com and if there is, it will prefetch that page, thinking this is the page you are most likely looking for. (Example: If you do a search for "warez", there is a www.warez.com website, Firefox automatically starts to download the content from that site.) It will still provide you with your search results, but also downloads the content from www.warez.com to be able to load that page faster, if that was the page you were looking for.
This prefetching can cause you to get LinkScanner Pro Alert warnings while doing a Google, MSN, or Yahoo search.
To stop these warnings you can turn off prefetching in the Firefox configuration file. To disable prefetching in Firefox follow the steps below:
- Open Firefox
- In the address bar type "about:config" and press ENTER
- Type in "prefetch" in the Filter box at the top of the tab
- Double click on "network.prefetch-next" to change the VALUE to FALSE
- Prefetching has now been disabled
This will stop Firefox from prefetching pages and keep LinkScanner Pro from giving you alerts while doing searches. |
